Can I bring my own
firearm to DDC courses?
A. Yes! (usually...) In most cases we encourage/require you to bring
your own firearm. However, for select seminars DDC provides all
firearms and ammunition. See the "Gear Requirements" link in the
"Courses" tab for more info.
Q. Can I rent a firearm

Q. Do you offer
private training by the hour?
Yes! DDC instructors offer private training by the hour in many

Where do you
DDC operates out of several ranges and facilities in the
Baltimore/DC metro area. Some of these include: AGC ranges in
Marriottsville MD, Gilbertís Indoor Range in Rockville MD, and On
Target in Severn MD. For certain types of private training we can
arrange in home training or at a range of the clientís choosing.
Q. Do I need previous
experience to take a course from you?
It depends on which course you are interested in. We have many
courses and seminars that require no previous firearms or self
defense experience whatsoever. However, some of our more advanced
courses such as our DDC Defense Handgun/Rifle courses do require
proof of previous firearms experience. Usually any NRA basic course
will be sufficient. Click the link for a particular course to see
if there are any prerequisites.
Q. Do I need to be a
member of the NRA to attend an NRA Basic course?
No. You are not required to be a member of the NRA to attend any
course DDC offers including NRA Basic courses. However, we do
encourage those who are concerned about protecting our 2nd Amendment
rights to consider joining the NRA.
Q. Can I come and just
watch a course?
Maybe. It depends on the course. If you are interested in
observing a particular course, we encourage you to call a DDC
Instructor and ask about the possibility. To observe a course
involving live fire, you will be required to bring you own hearing,
and eye protection.
Q. Can I use a
revolver in the DDC Defensive Handgun courses?
Yes! If you are using a revolver as your defensive tool we think
that is an excellent choice. The techniques you will learn in the
Defensive Handgun course apply to both revolvers and semi autos. The
only major difference will be that you will learn to use speed
loaders rather than changing a semi autoís magazine. (You will be
required to bring at least 4 speed loaders/moon clips for your
revolver, and you will need a gun chambered in .38spl minimum.)
Q. Do you provide
water and snacks during courses?
Yes! DDC provides bottled water and snacks for EVERY course and
seminar we offer!
Do you make safety
a priority during your courses?
YES!!! The instructors with DDC make safety their number one
priority during firearms and/or self defense training. All of our
instructors are NRA certified Range Safety Officers therefore
students can feel completely confident that taking a DDC course will
be fun, valuable, and above all, safe experience.
Q. How would you deal
with a student displaying unsafe behavior?
If a student is displaying unsafe behavior, particularly during
firearms training, the instructors at DDC will make certain the
student is removed from the firing line and given remedial safety
instruction as needed. If it is determined that the individual is a
continuing safety concern DDC reserves the right to remove the
student from training. If this occurs the student will be given a
full refund, and offered private safety instruction at a discounted
rate so that they may return to group courses.
Q. Iím nervous around
guns but want to learn. What course should I start with?
We recommend the NRA Basic Firearms Courses as a great introduction
to whichever type of firearm you are interested in. These courses
are designed to give an individual with any experience level the
knowledge, skills, and attitude to operate a firearm safely.
Q. Iím not in the best
shape. Can I still participate in courses involving self defense?
Yes! While we encourage our students to push their limits, we
understand that those limits vary from person to person.
Q. What should I bring
with me to a course?
This depends on which course you are taking. There are some courses
that require the student to supply their own gear and some which DDC
provides all equipment necessary. Please see
Gear Requirements for more info. Generally comfortable and durable clothes and
footwear is recommended.
Q. Do you have courses
oriented towards young people?
Yes! NRA Basic Firearms Courses are very appropriate courses for
introducing young people to firearms. In addition DDC offers
extensive private training opportunities to families and young
persons alike in many aspects of self defense and firearms.
What is your
We require at least 24hours notice to cancel a slot in one of our
courses. If you cancel before the 24hrs you will receive a full
refund. Cancellations after 24hrs may receive credit for a future
course. No-shows will receive no refund, or credit. The only
situations in which DDC will cancel a course will be due to weather
events such as: blizzard conditions, or lightning (outdoor courses).
In such cases all students will receive full refunds.
